I keep going to buy CDs I already own. Henceforth, a project to make a list of my physical music collection. This is section one on shelf one – there’s (does a quick count) 48 of them in total. We’ll see how long I can keep this up. Fortunately with the aid of the Red Laser app it shouldn’t be too hard.. should it?

Not an auspicious start.. the very first barcode I scanned wasn’t recognised by the internet. Perhaps Sony Australia “Promo Copy Not For Sale” CDs died out before it was invented. I wondered for a minute why Force hasn’t got a barcode – but given it was made in the 80s before the technology was ubiquitous, maybe not so mysterious.
Not really a lot of A bands are there. Weird.
Antarctica Starts Here is a local band, I love the track on that CD that samples John Howard, and crows. Hand made CD package by the artist.
Automaton was an early internet find, I had a couple of (legal) mp3 download tracks of theirs for years and only recently managed to search out the full albums. They’re great, in an angular, math-rock-slash-sonic-youth way.
The rest – well. Let’s just say I’ve enjoyed lots of different styles for lots of different reasons over the years.. there’s more interesting and obscure stuff to come, promise.
